Amélie’s – A French Bakery Muse

The romance of France comes alive at Amélie’s, a French bakery that’s become a beloved institution with three quick service locations sprinkled across Charlotte. While savory items like decadent sandwiches and vibrant salads compete for your attention, pastries hold court here.

Macarons, eclairs, tarts, and oh-so-tempting brownies, especially their salted caramel variety, will lead you on a delightful dance of flavors.

Discover a Charlotte road trip in this post, complete with where to stay and play.

The Cellar at Duckworth’s – A Speakeasy that Steals the Spotlight

Step into The Cellar at Duckworth’s and slip back into the roaring ’20s with its prohibition-style cocktails and vintage charm. Every American dish served here has an eclectic twist, and their steaks are cooked to sheer perfection. But allow me to elevate one beverage above all—their blackberry mezcal is a symphony in a glass.

As far as appetizers go, their homemade waffle cone trio, an appetizer for as long as I can remember, featuring chicken, coconut shrimp, and ponzu poke tuna, is not to be missed.

The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar – An Unusual Fusion

Marvel at the ingenious blend of ingredients forming the exclusive sushi and burger creations at The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar. For the indecisive, the Burgushi is a culinary enigma that deliciously defies expectations, but first, the crab rangoon dip is unbelievably hard to say no to.

Take it up a notch with the Fusion Specialty Bento Box — a photogenic feast as delightful to the palate as it is to the eyes.

Famous Toastery – Breakfast Wonders from Dawn to Afternoon

Open bright and early till 3 PM, Famous Toastery doesn’t play around when it comes to breakfast. Choose your morning muse; whether it’s the hearty Famous Hash, complete with corned beef and a crowning of eggs and Hollandaise, or the endlessly customizable Blah-Blah-Blah Omelet, every dish is a taste revelation that rejuvenates your day.

Fenwick’s on Providence – The Neighborhood Treasure

Nestled in the heart of the neighborhood, Fenwick’s on Providence is more than just a dining spot; it’s a palate party. Their quiche captures the perfect balance of fluffiness and flavor, but their tomato bisque will have you saying “OMG” at first spoonful. It’s a place polished enough for a romantic date yet homey enough to feel like part of the community.

Their daily specials are a Southern delight – think home-cooked red beans & rice, New Orleans-style shrimp étouffée, and classic pot roast.

Flying Saucer Draught Emporium – Casual Eats with an ET Twist

Seeking fun in a laid-back setting with great food and a galaxy of beers? Look no further than Flying Saucer Draught Emporium, which has an array of appetizers perfect for kicking off any gathering. Add trivia nights, and you’ve found a spot that’s as memorable for its atmosphere as it is for its menu.

Heist Brewery – NoDa’s Flavorful Journey

I happened upon Heist Brewery during a NoDa food tour and have been back on every visit to Charlotte since. Known for its delicious brews and sensational flatbreads, Heist is a local restaurant that will help you find your home away from home—your neighborhood bar and gem.

From beer cheese with homemade pretzels to New England Fish & Chips and Chicken & Waffle tacos, it is all sensational. Sunday brunch is served 10 AM till 2 PM.

Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Q – Southern BBQ Meets Charlotte Charm

Seeing Alabama’s famous Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Q join Charlotte’s culinary wonderland warms the soul. Their pulled pork and smoked turkey breast carry the essence of Southern BBQ, and when paired with sides like collards, Mac & cheese, and their irresistible cheese biscuits, you’ve got a meal that’s nothing short of perfection.

King’s Kitchen – A Culinary Crown Jewel with a Mission

When it comes to renowned chefs, Jim Noble has held my admiration for over two decades. His King’s Kitchen is not just a dining experience; it’s a mission-driven endeavor. Every Southern dish, from their knockout fried chicken and heavenly Mac & cheese to tenderly cooked collards and the finest rainbow trout, is impeccably prepared.

Take this advice to heart—save room for their luscious Heath banana pudding.

Manolo’s Bakery – A Latin Revolution

Manolo’s Bakery, the first Latin Bakery in Charlotte, invites you to indulge in flavor fusions from bread to pastries and coffee. The doughnuts, conchas, and sweets are off the hook delicious, and don’t even get me started on the beautiful macarons.

If they have vanilla tres leches cake with strawberry jam on your visit, buy two.

Melting Pot Charlotte – An Interactive Indulgence

At Melting Pot Charlotte, engage in the playfulness of chocolate and cheese fondue experiences. Sure to score high on the unforgettable meals list, it’s a delightful splurge that entices you to cook meats and veggies right at your table.

Label me fondue-obsessed, but their classic alpine cheese selection and the Yin & Yang chocolate dessert are simply addictive.

Mizu Wood-Fired Seafood – Blending Traditions

At Mizu, situated within the stylish confines of the Hyatt Centric Charlotte SouthPark, a symphony of cooking styles takes center stage. Traditional Japanese techniques meet Southern twists and Asian influences atop wood-fired Robata grills.

For recommendations, the Hamachi Tartare and Spicy Gyu Buns are triumphs of taste. Dining alfresco? Their patio boasts striking city vistas that pair exquisitely with their wood-fired wonders.

Optimist Hall – Dine, Discover, Delight

More than a dining locale, Optimist Hall pulsates with life as a social epicenter chock-full of flavorsome choices. Selecting what to savor can be a pleasurable challenge, with options ranging from comforting ramen and delicate bao buns to a vivid display of empanadas.

Optimist Hall is a lively nook that exudes warmth, akin to your preferred café. It is perfect for catching up with friends or focusing on work with a coffee from Undercurrent Coffee or a signature concoction from Billy Sunday. If it is doable, you’ll find it here in Charlotte’s culinary wonderland food hall.

Supperland – A Whimsical Dining Encounter

Imagine stepping into a space where Southern steakhouse charm blends seamlessly with the coziness of a church potluck. Supperland, nestled in the characterful Plaza Midwood inside a repurposed mid-century church, does just that.

With a playful menu that gets your taste sparks flying, starting with their Hot Sweet Potato Dip is an absolute must-do. And if you’re looking for something truly memorable, the Baked Brie Bites will leave you charmed.

Dining here is an immersive experience with eclectic, custom dishes by London artist Lou Rota. It’s little wonder that Bon Appétit Magazine hailed Supperland as one of the ten best new restaurants in the nation just a short time ago.

Three Amigos Mexican Grill & Cantina – Margaritas & Tacos

Three Amigos Mexican Grill & Cantina is your quintessential local haunt for feasting on Mexican classics. Whether you’re here for the best margaritas in town, savory enchiladas, or simply the joy of watching your kids eat free on Mondays, this place stitches the fabric of family-friendly fun with vibrant flavors.

Velvet Taco – Casual Eats with Flair

There’s casual dining, and then there’s Velvet Taco – an innovative taco haven with premium offerings set against a backdrop of pure funk. Choose from a wide variety of creative tacos, ranging from spicy tikka chicken and Nashville hot tufu to Korean fried rice and Chimichurri steak.

Elevate your casual dining with one of their signature boozy drinks: a crisp margarita or the unique ‘ranch water’.

Yafo Kitchen – A Mediterranean Odyssey on a Plate

Yafo Kitchen might redefine what you consider “fast food.” An oasis for incredible Mediterranean delights, it showcases authentic and fresh flavors, and you’ll be silently thanking the culinary gods with every mouthful. Build your own pita or bowl, or steer toward the yummy chicken schnitzel and grilled steak kabobs.
